Growing up in a capitalist society, where capitalist corporations control our education, you may hear the word Socialism and associate it with evil, theft, unfairness, or other negative characteristics. Socialism is defined below;
Socialism
—noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
In America, socialism is demonized and made to look evil, while capitalism is encouraged and taught to be a good thing in the minds of children in elementary school. Most Americans do not realize how corrupt capitalism is. Advocates use the argument, capitalism has improve quality of life and and aided large corporations, with large sums of money, in technological advances; the exact opposite is true, technology is suppressed, and we only have this quality of life because we exploit other countries into thinking we try to help them, when its really our own benefit.
America is partially socialist but its system is corrupt. America’s socialist programs are not there for the better of the poor or those in need, as they should be, but they are set up to benefit large corporations at the cost of the tax payer. Large corporations, such as Mc Donald’s and Walmart, lobby for these kinds of programs so they would not have to pay living wages to their employees; their employees are encouraged to apply for benefits such as EBT SNAP, Section 8, etc. As corporations profit and contribute little to nothing to society, American tax payers are taxed to death in favor of the richest people in America.

If you hear the word socialism you may think of some dystopian society where everyones rights are taken so that everyone is equal. Where the government owns and controls every business and aspect of our daily lives; it’s ironic, this is the exact society we are living in. In extreme examples, a citizen could not own certain items because another might not for specific reasons, or a good looking person must wear a mask because he must be equal in public to an ugly person. Lets look at the definition of Socialism again.
theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
In a society like ours, where the people make no decision in the political process, but are manipulated into thinking they have a choice, where leaders are chosen by corporations, and laws are dictated by the very same corporate powers, the idea where the government, or corporations, control every aspect of our daily lives truly is scary. We are living in this exact type of society, mixed with capitalism, which just means the richest make all the money and profit, exploit the public and bring nothing to the table.
If the public really controlled the government, and not the bankers and the corporations, then the community as a whole would make the decisions. In a socialist society nobody is entitled to everything or everything, but everybody should be entitled to basic needs as equally as anybody else such as housing, food, water, clothing, transportation, energy, and information. Nobody should be able to profit off of housing others, shelter should be provided by the community to the community. Nobody should be able to profit off of water. Who can say they own water already here on Earth just so they can take it, bottle it and sell it. Nobody should be profiting off of feeding humanity, there is enough food on Earth to feed every human being on the planet; no GMOs are even necessary to do this, in fact, GMOs yield less than organic seeds. We are able to produce free energy with hemp oil, magnets, water and other innovative ideas, but thanks to big corporations this technology is suppressed. With the Internet all information could be free, education would no longer need to be paid for. If society were truly socialist, there would be one big difference, nobody would be profiting off if these industries.
